- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 1 cup onion, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tablespoon cooking sherry, optional
- thyme sprigs, optional, to taste, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Mix the ground beef, the breadcrumbs, the egg, the Worcestershire sauce, 1/2 teaspoon of the seasoned salt, the onion powder, the garlic powder, and the pepper in a large bowl until combined.
Step 2 -Form the meat mixture into 8 balls.
Step 3 -Flatten the balls into patties.
Step 4 -Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Step 5 -Add the patties and the onions and fry until the patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side.
Step 6 -Transfer the beef patties to a plate and keep them warm.
Step 7 -Sprinkle the flour over the onions and the drippings in the skillet and stir it in with a fork, while scraping the bottom of the pan to release the browned bits.
Step 8 -Gradually mix in the beef broth and the sherry.
Step 9 -Season the mixture with the remaining seasoned salt.
Step 10 -Simmer the mixture over medium-low heat, while stirring, until a thickened gravy forms, about 5 minutes.
Step 11 -Reduce the heat to low and return the patties to the gravy.
Step 12 -Cover and simmer until the beef is cooked through with the meat reaching an internal temperature of 155 degrees F, about 15 minutes.
Step 13 -Serve garnished with the thyme.
