Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon cracked black pepper, plus more, to taste, for garnish
- 1 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder, optional
- 1 pound beef cube steaks
- 1/2 cup olive oil
- 2 cups beef broth
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -In a shallow bowl, add the flour, 1 teaspoon of the black pepper, the seasoned salt, and the garlic powder and whisk to combine.
Step 3 -Coat the cube steaks thoroughly with the flour mixture, patting the flour mixture onto the steaks to ensure a good coating.
Step 4 -Reserve 3 tablespoons of the flour mixture.
Step 5 -In a skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
Step 6 -Add the coated steaks, in batches to avoid overcrowding, to the hot oil and cook, flipping them once, until they are golden-brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side.
Step 7 -Transfer the browned steaks to a 9x13-inch baking dish and repeat until all of the steaks are browned.
Step 8 -In a bowl, add the reserved flour mixture and the beef broth and whisk until smooth.
Step 9 -Pour the broth mixture over the steaks in the baking dish and cover the dish with foil.
Step 10 -Bake the steaks until the meat is tender and the broth mixture has thickened into a gravy, about 2 hours.
Step 11 -Serve the steaks with the gravy, garnished with the extra black pepper.
