Sloppy Joe Stew?! Don't be too surprised... depending on your personal preferences, sloppy Joes are basically stew in sandwich form already! But that sweet and savory, cafeteria favorite in true spoon-sipping form is just fantastic! Rich tomato and a hint of hot pepper heat makes Sloppy Joe Stew ideal for shaking off any winter chills! No need for rolls here!
Ingredients
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 small green pepper, chopped
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1 (11-ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained
- 2 (10.5-ounce) cans tomato soup
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon hot pepper sauce
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
Directions
Step 1 -In a Dutch oven over medium heat, add the beef, the onions, and the green peppers and cook, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 2 -Drain the fat from the Dutch oven.
Step 3 -Add the water, the corn, the tomato soup, the sugar, the Worcestershire sauce, the hot pepper sauce, the salt, and the black pepper to the beef mixture and stir to combine.
Step 4 -Bring the beef mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to medium-low.
Step 5 -Cover the Dutch oven and let the beef mixture simmer until the vegetables are tender and the flavors have melded togther, about 1 hour.
Step 6 -Serve.
