Ingredients
- all-purpose flour, to taste, for dusting the work surface
- 1 (14-16-ounce) ball refrigerated pizza dough, room temperature
- 1/2 cup marinara sauce, plus more, to taste, for serving
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 10 slices part-skim mozzarella cheese
- 2 ounces sliced pepperoni, divided
- 4 sticks mozzarella string cheese
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Using the flour, dust a work surface.
Step 3 -Roll out the pizza dough on the floured surface until it is flat and 11x18-inches in size.
Step 4 -Spread 1/2 cup of the marinara sauce over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border at the edges.
Step 5 -Sprinkle the parmesan, the oregano, and the salt on the sauce, and evenly add the mozzarella slices and half of the pepperoni.
Step 6 -Arrange the string cheese in a line along one long edge of the dough.
Step 7 -Starting from the long edge with the string cheese, roll the dough up as tightly as possible so the string cheese is in the middle of the roll.
Step 8 -Pinch the seam of the dough to seal it and place the roll seam-side down.
Step 9 -Slice the roll into 1-inch pieces with a serrated knife.
Step 10 -Place the rolls cut-side up in a 12-inch round baking dish or cast-iron skillet.
Step 11 -Tuck the pepperoni in between the folds of the pizza rolls, leaving just a little sticking out.
Step 12 -Let the dough rise at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Step 13 -Bake until the crust of the rolls is golden and the filling is bubbly, for about 20-25 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve with the extra marinara sauce.
