About

St. Louis barbecue is known for two things: spare ribs and barbecue sauce — lots and lots of barbecue sauce. In fact, St. Louis consumes more barbecue sauce than anywhere else in the U.S. So when you're making Oven-Baked STL Ribs, make sure you have your favorite sauce for brushing down the tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs, so every bite has plenty of that tangy, smoky, sweet taste. The ribs themselves are savory and rubbed with a spice mixture perfectly blended to highlight the barbecue flavors. Oven-Baked STL Ribs will have you falling in love with barbecue all over again... or perhaps for the first time!

Ingredients

  • For the spice rub:
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • For the ribs:
  • 3-4 pounds St. Louis Ribs
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce, of your choice, plus more, to taste

Directions

Step 1 -Combine the salt, the black pepper, the paprika, the garlic powder, the cayenne pepper, the oregano, and the brown sugar in a small bowl.

Step 2 -Rub the spice mixture on both sides of the ribs.

Step 3 -Let the ribs sit and absorb the spices for at least 15 minutes.

Step 4 -Place an oven rack in the middle position.

Step 5 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 6 -Wrap the ribs in foil and place the ribs on a baking sheet.

Step 7 -Bake until the ribs are tender, about 2 hours.

Step 8 -Remove the foil from the ribs.

Step 9 -Generously brush the ribs with 1 cup of the barbecue sauce.

Step 10 -Return the ribs to the oven and roast until the sauce has become darker and hot and the ribs are fully cooked through at 145 degrees F internally, about 20-25 minutes.

Step 11 -Cut the ribs into individual portions and serve with the extra barbecue sauce.
