Emerald goodness in a baking dish, sandwiched between layers of delicious golden brown; it's a distinct mix of colors and flavors that makes Green Chicken Bake so tasty! The chicken is savory and wonderfully pan-seared, topped with homemade chicken gravy and crisp-tender green beans. If that isn't delicious enough, it's also topped with toasty, fluffy, poultry-flavored stuffing. Green Chicken Bake will make others green with envy because you got to eat it and they didn't!
Ingredients
- 6 ounces chicken stuffing mix, plus the ingredients called for on the box
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 6 chicken breasts, boneless and skinless, optionally cubed
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 pound fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 1-inch lengths
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 cups chicken broth
- 5 ounces cream cheese, cubed
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Spray a 9x13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
Step 3 -Prepare the stuffing mix according to the package directions.
Step 4 -In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
Step 5 -Add the chicken to the melted butter and sprinkle it with the pepper.
Step 6 -Cook until the chicken is almost cooked through at 140 degrees F, about 3-4 minutes per side if using whole breasts and about 3-4 minutes total if using cubed chicken. The chicken will finish cooking in the oven.
Step 7 -Place the chicken in the prepared baking dish.
Step 8 -In the same skillet, cook and stir the beans until crisp-tender, about 6 minutes.
Step 9 -Sprinkle the beans with the flour and cook until the raw flour smell disappears, about 1 minute.
Step 10 -Stir in the broth and let simmer, stirring frequently, about 3 minutes.
Step 11 -Add the cream cheese and stir until melted.
Step 12 -Spoon the green beans and the sauce over the chicken.
Step 13 -Top the green beans and chicken with the stuffing.
Step 14 -Bake until heated through and the chicken has reached 165 degrees F internally, about 30 minutes.
Step 15 -Serve.
