Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 pound extra lean ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 1 (8-ounce) can sliced water chestnuts, drained and chopped
  • 1/3 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup egg substitute, such as Just Egg® Plant-Based Liquid Egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 (12-ounce) package wonton wrappers
  • water, to taste
  • nonstick cooking spray, to taste
  • sweet and sour sauce, to taste, store-bought or homemade, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2 -Coat two baking sheets with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 3 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add the pork, the turkey, and the onions and cook, while crumbling the pork and the turkey, until the meat is no longer pink. Drain the excess grease, then pour the meat mixture into a bowl.

Step 4 -Add the water chestnuts, the soy sauce, the egg substitute, and the ginger to the meat mixture and stir until it is well-combined.

Step 5 -Place the stack of wonton wrappers on a clean plate and cover them with a damp paper towel.

Step 6 -Place 1 of the wonton wrappers on a flat surface and position it so that one of the corners is pointing down. Scoop 2 heaping teaspoons of the filling onto the center of the wonton wrapper.

Step 7 -Fold the corner of the wonton wrapper that's pointing down over the filling, then fold the left corner and the right corner over the filling. Roll the wonton wrapper upward once, toward the unfolded top corner. Moisten the unfolded top corner with the water, continue rolling, then press to seal the wonton.

Step 8 -Repeat with the filling and folding process with remaining wonton wrappers, the remaining filling, and the water.

Step 9 -Place the filled wontons on the prepared baking sheet and lightly coat them with the nonstick cooking spray.

Step 10 -Bake the filled wontons, turning them once, until they are golden-brown about 10-12 minutes.

Step 11 -Serve the wontons with the sweet and sour sauce.
