Ingredients
- 4 (8-ounce) chicken breasts, boneless and skinless
- salt, to taste
- pepper, to taste
- taco seasoning, to taste
- cooking oil, to taste
- 1 1/2 cups jarred salsa
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.
Step 2 -Season the chicken on both sides with the salt, the pepper, and the taco seasoning. If the taco seasoning contains salt, make sure you adjust the salt accordingly.
Step 3 -In a large, oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat, add the cooking oil.
Step 4 -Add the chicken breasts to the hot oil and cook until they are well-browned on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
Step 5 -Transfer the pan from the heat.
Step 6 -Pour the salsa evenly over top of the chicken.
Step 7 -Bake the chicken breasts until they reach an internal temperature of 150 degrees F, about 15-25 minutes. They will not be fully cooked.
Step 8 -Sprinkle the chicken-salsa mixture with the cheese.
Step 9 -Bake until the cheese is melted and the chicken breasts reach an internal temperature of 165 degrees F, about 5-10 minutes.
Step 10 -Allow the chicken to rest for 5 minutes.
Step 11 -Serve.
