Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1 (12-ounce) bag semisweet chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1 -Position an oven rack in the middle position.

Step 2 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 3 -Put the butter in a microwave safe bowl.

Step 4 -Cover and microwave the bowl on medium power until melted.

Step 5 -Brush the melted butter on the inside of a 9x13-inch pan, using only as much butter as needed.

Step 6 -Cool the remaining butter slightly.

Step 7 -Whisk the remaining cooled butter, the brown sugar, the eggs, and the vanilla in a large bowl until smooth.

Step 8 -Whisk the flour, the baking soda, and the salt together in another bowl.

Step 9 -Stir the dry ingredients mixture into the wet ingredients mixture using a spoon or a spatula, making sure not to overmix. The batter should be thick and all of the flour mixture should be fully incorporated.

Step 10 -Fold the chocolate chips into the batter.

Step 11 -Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan.

Step 12 -Bake until the edges are browned and the center is completely set, about 30 minutes.

Step 13 -Cool the bars completely, about 1 hour.

Step 14 -Cut the bake into 24 bars and serve.
