  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce, plus more, to taste, for serving
  • 1/4 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups part-skim mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • basil leaves, optional, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 -Mix the egg, 1/2 cup of the pizza sauce, the breadcrumbs, and the Italian seasoning in a large bowl.

Step 3 -Add the beef, and mix lightly but thoroughly.

Step 4 -Divide the mixture into 12 portions, then press each portion onto the bottom and up sides of a greased muffin cup.

Step 5 -Add the cheese to the centers of the meat cups.

Step 6 -Bake until the meat is cooked through, about 15-18 minutes.

Step 7 -Top them with the extra pizza sauce and the basil, and serve.
