Surprise! Surprise Brownies contain black beans! In fact, instead of flour, black beans make up the core of each of these chocolatey treats! No, you can't taste the black beans... your taste buds will only discover a fudgy, rich, sweet dessert that they won't want to stop eating! That's why Surprise Brownies are such a surprise — even when you know the secret, you still can't tell!
Ingredients
- 1 (15-ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided
- 3 tablespoons canola oil
- 3 large eggs, room temperature
- 2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup baking cocoa
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
Step 3 -In a food processor, add the beans, 1/4 cup of the chocolate chips, and the oil.
Step 4 -Cover the food processor and process the bean mixture until it is blended.
Step 5 -Add the eggs, the brown sugar, the cocoa, the vanilla, the baking powder, and the salt to the bean mixture.
Step 6 -Cover the food processor and process until a smooth batter forms.
Step 7 -Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it out evenly.
Step 8 -Sprinkle the batter with the remaining chocolate chips.
Step 9 -Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20-25 minutes.
Step 10 -Transfer the baking pan to a wire rack to cool.
Step 11 -Cut the brownies into bars and serve.
