Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more, to taste, for dusting a work surface
  • 4 tablespoons butter, cold, plus more, to taste, softened, for serving
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup low-fat buttermilk
  • jelly, flavor of choice, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.

Step 2 -Coat a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

Step 3 -In a large bowl, add 2 cups of the flour, 4 tablespoons of the cold butter, the baking powder, the baking soda, and the salt and combine.

Step 4 -Use your hands to break up the butter in the flour mixture until little pebbles form.

Step 5 -Make a well in the center of the dough and pour the buttermilk into it.

Step 6 -Use a fork to gently bring the dough together.

Step 7 -Use the extra flour to dust a work surface.

Step 8 -Place the dough on the prepared work surface and pat it out into a square.

Step 9 -Gently fold the dough onto itself 4-5 times, then roll it out to form a 1-inch-thick circle.

Step 10 -Use a round cookie cutter to cut the dough into biscuits rounds.

Step 11 -Reform the dough into another circle and repeat until all of it has been cut.

Step 12 -Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet and bake on the middle rack until they are golden-brown, about 10-12 minutes.

Step 13 -Serve the biscuits topped with the extra butter and the jelly.
