Ingredients
- 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more, to taste, for dusting a work surface
- 1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup butter, cold and cubed
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/4 cup chives, chopped
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
Directions
Step 1 -Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2 -In a large mixing bowl, add 4 cups of the all-purpose flour, the baking powder, the garlic powder, and the salt and whisk until it is combined.
Step 3 -Use a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour mixture until pea-sized crumbles form.
Step 4 -Add the cheese, the bacon, and the chives to the dough mixture and stir until they are evenly distributed.
Step 5 -Stir the buttermilk into the dough mixture until the dry ingredients are thoroughly incorporated and a soft dough forms.
Step 6 -Use the extra flour to lightly dust a work surface.
Step 7 -Turn the dough out onto the prepared surface and knead it, about 3-4 times.
Step 8 -Use a rolling pin to roll the dough out into a large rectangle that is approximately 1 1/4-inches-thick.
Step 9 -Use a 2-inch round biscuit or cookie cutter to cut the dough into circles.
Step 10 -Place the dough circles about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 11 -Place the baking sheet in the freezer and chill the dough circles, about 15 minutes.
Step 12 -Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
Step 13 -Transfer the baking sheet from the freezer and bake the biscuits until they are golden-brown, about 15-18 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve immediately.
