Independence Day, summer cookouts, or barbecues all call for some indulgence. Burgers, hot dogs, and chicken are all great, but you need a head-turner, a show-stopper. All-American Chili Cheese Dogs are that headliner dish; just look at them! Each dog is topped with beefy, deeply savory, spicy, and zesty chili topped with melted cheddar cheese. All that ladled over fresh grilled hot dogs, so All-American Chili Cheese Dogs truly do steal the show. Your tastebuds are already cheering and jumping for joy (and you will be, too)!
Ingredients
- For the chili dogs:
- 1 pound ground beef, 90% lean
- 1 (15-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- cayenne pepper, to taste
- 8 hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns, split
- Optional, for serving:
- cheddar cheese, to taste, shredded
- relish, to taste
- onions, chopped
Directions
Step 1 -In a large skillet, cook the beef, while crumbling, over medium heat until it is no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.
Step 2 -Drain the fat from the skillet.
Step 3 -Stir in the tomato sauce, the water, the Worcestershire sauce, the dried minced onion, the garlic powder, the ground mustard, the chili powder, the pepper, and the cayenne pepper.
Step 4 -Place the hot dogs in a 3-quart slow cooker.
Step 5 -Top the hot dogs with the chili mixture.
Step 6 -Cook, covered, on low until heated through, about 4-5 hours.
Step 7 -Serve on the buns and top with the cheese, the relish, and the onions.
