  • For the pear filling:
  • butter, to taste, for greasing the baking dish
  • 5 large pears, peeled and diced
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the pecan topping:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup pecans, very finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • vanilla ice cream, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -Adjust a rack to the center position in the oven, then preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 -Use the extra butter to grease a 10.5x12.5-inch baking dish.

Step 3 -In a large bowl, add the pears, 2/3 cup of the granulated sugar, and the salt and stir to combine.

Step 4 -In a second large bowl, add the flour, the remaining granulated sugar, the brown sugar, the cinnamon, and the pecans and stir to combine.

Step 5 -Drizzle the remaining 1/2 cup of melted butter into the flour mixture, while gradually stirring with a fork, until it is well-combined.

Step 6 -Place the pear mixture in the prepared baking dish and evenly sprinkle with the pecan mixture.

Step 7 -Bake the pear crisp on the center rack, about 30 minutes.

Step 8 -Move the baking dish to the top rack and bake the pear crisp until the topping is golden-brown, about 10 minutes.

Step 9 -Serve the pear crisp warm with the ice cream.
