Ingredients

  • For the shrimp:
  • 1 pound medium shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • For the sauce:
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons orange juice, freshly squeezed
  • 1 orange, zested, plus more, to taste, optional, for garnish
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • green onions, optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 -In a large bowl, add the shrimp, the salt, and the pepper and toss to combine.

Step 2 -Add the cornstarch and toss gently to combine.

Step 3 -One at a time, dip the shrimp into the beaten eggs.

Step 4 -In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, heat the vegetable oil.

Step 5 -Add the shrimp to the hot oil and cook until they are golden-brown and they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F, about 1-2 minutes per side.

Step 6 -Transfer the cooked shrimp to a paper-towel-lined plate to drain.

Step 7 -In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, add the honey, the orange juice, the zest from 1 orange, the garlic powder, the red pepper flakes, and the ginger and stir to combine.

Step 8 -Bring the mixture to a boil.

Step 9 -Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer until thickened, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 10 -Serve the shrimp immediately with the sauce, garnished with the extra orange zest and the green onions.
