About
Barb swears that making spaghetti via casserole is the best way to do it. After trying Barb's Baked Spaghetti, we can't disagree! The pasta is tender and bouncy, perfect for twirling around a rich, meaty tomato sauce with plenty of tangy, creamy cheeses. Everything is baked together so the flavors really harmonize while the cheese gets all melty. Mmmm, Barb's Baked Spaghetti really does know how to bring out the best in pasta night!
Ingredients
- 1 (16-ounce) package spaghetti
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 (32-ounce) jar meatless spaghetti sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup parmesan cheese, grated
- 5 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 cups small-curd cottage cheese
- 5 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 3 -In a large pot of lightly salted, boiling water, cook the spaghetti to al dente, about 12 minutes.
Step 4 -Drain the pasta.
Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef and the onion and cook, while stirring and crumbling the meat, until it is no longer pink and the onion is softened, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6 -Drain the excess grease from the pan.
Step 7 -Add the spaghetti sauce and the seasoned salt to the beef-onion mixture and stir to combine.
Step 8 -In a large bowl, add the eggs, the parmesan, and the butter and whisk to combine.
Step 9 -Add the spaghetti to the egg mixture and toss to combine and coat.
Step 10 -In the prepared baking dish, add 1/2 of the spaghetti mixture.
Step 11 -Top the spaghetti layer with 1/2 of the cottage cheese, 2 cups of the mozzarella, and 1/2 of the meat sauce in that order.
Step 12 -Repeat the layers, starting with the spaghetti.
Step 13 -Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
Step 14 -Bake, covered, for 40 minutes.
Step 15 -Remove the foil and sprinkle the top of the bake with the remaining mozzarella.
Step 16 -Bake until the cheese is melted and lightly browned, about 20-25 minutes.
Step 17 -Serve.
