At one point or another, we've all looked at the classic shepherd's pie and thought "this could actually be much more hamburger-like." It certainly can be, and with Bacon Cheeseburger Shepherd's Pie, it is! The savory beef layer of this heaty, stick-to-your-ribs favorite is now infused with plenty of succulent bacon flavor and melty cheese—classic burger accompaniments. It even has ketchup in it! On top is still a fluffy bed of mashed potatoes, serving as the french fries in this unique twist on two beloved dishes at once! Bacon Cheeseburger Shepherd's Pie shepherds everyone to the table to enjoy it! And they will!
Ingredients
- For the pie:
- 2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1 cup onion, diced
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can condensed cream of bacon soup
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup real bacon bits
- 1 cup mozzarella and cheddar cheese, blend, shredded
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 8 ounces mashed potatoes, cooked
- For the topping:
- 2 cups mozzarella and cheddar cheese blend, shredded
- 1/4 cup real bacon bits
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
Step 3 -In a large sauté pan over medium-high heat, add the ground beef and cook and crumble it.
Step 4 -Add the onions to the pan, stirring well with the beef.
Step 5 -Cook the beef mixture until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6 -Drain the grease from the pan and reduce the heat to medium-low.
Step 7 -Add the soup and the ketchup to the pan and stir well.
Step 8 -Add 1/2 cup of the bacon bits, 1 cup of the cheese blend, the salt, the pepper, the garlic powder, and the onion powder to the pan, stirring until fully combined.
Step 9 -Pour the beef mixture into the baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Step 10 -Spread the mashed potatoes on top of the ground beef mixture in the baking dish.
Step 11 -Sprinkle the remaining cheese and the remaining bacon bits on top of the mashed potatoes.
Step 12 -Bake until bubbly and the cheese is lightly golden brown, about 25 minutes.
Step 13 -Let stand for 5 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve.
