Ingredients
- 3 slices bread
- 1/3 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, divided
- 1/2 cup yellow onion, minced
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 24 ounces marinara sauce
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -In the bowl of a stand mixer, let the bread soak in the milk.
Step 3 -In a pan over medium-low heat, add 1 tablespoon of the butter and the onions and cook until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.
Step 4 -Transfer the onions from the heat and let them cool.
Step 5 -Add the cooked onions, the ground beef, the eggs, the salt, the pepper, and the Worcestershire sauce to the soaked bread slices and mix on low speed until the bread is broken apart and the meat is combined.
Step 6 -Use a meatball scoop or an ice cream scoop to scoop the meat mixture into small balls.
Step 7 -In the same pan, melt the remaining butter over medium-high heat.
Step 8 -Add the meatballs to the butter and cook until all the sides are seared, about 2-3 minutes per side.
Step 9 -Coat the bottom of a baking dish with 1/2 of the marinara sauce.
Step 10 -Evenly place the meatballs on top of the marinara sauce and then top them with the remaining marinara sauce.
Step 11 -Evenly sprinkle the meatballs with the mozzarella cheese.
Step 12 -Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 18-20 minutes.
Step 13 -Increase the oven temperature to 425 degrees F, carefully uncover the dish, and bake until the cheese has melted, about 5 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve.
