Ultra herbaceous, aromatic, with deep tangy flavor from balsamic and ricotta salata, and just a hint of red pepper flake spice, there's just so, so much to love! Pile it high on toast or dip right into it, either way, Italian Bread Dip is versatile and delicious! Ironically, it just might butter you up!

Ingredients

  • 1 shallot, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely diced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, diced, plus more, to taste, whole leaves, for garnish
  • 3 tablespoons sun-dried tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 ounce ricotta salata, crumbled, can substitute feta cheese
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup olive oil
  • Italian bread, to taste, sliced and toasted
  • balsamic reduction, optional, to taste, homemade or store-bought, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -In a bowl, add the shallots, the garlic, 2 tablespoons of the diced basil, the sun-dried tomatoes, the ricotta salata, the balsamic vinegar, the red pepper flakes, and the olive oil and stir to combine.

Step 2 -Top the toasted bread slices evenly with the bread dip, then drizzle with the balsamic reduction. Optionally, serve the bread dip in a bowl with the toasted bread slices on the side.

Step 3 -Garnish with the extra fresh basil leaves and serve.
