Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 quarts oil, neutral-flavored
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 1 egg
  • 2 pounds cheese curds

Directions

Step 1 -In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the oil to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 -Whisk together the buttermilk, the flour, the baking soda, the garlic salt, and the egg until smooth.

Step 3 -Coat the cheese curds in the batter, working in batches as needed.

Step 4 -Fry the cheese curds in batches until golden-brown, about 30 seconds-1 minute.

Step 5 -Drain the curds on paper towels.

Step 6 -Serve immediately.
