Ingredients

  • For the crust:
  • 1 (15.25-ounce) package German chocolate cake mix
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1 large egg
  • For the filling:
  • 1 (8-ounce) package reduced-fat cream cheese
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 cup miniature semi-sweet chocolate chips

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 2 -Coat a 13x9-inch baking pan with cooking spray.

Step 3 -In a bowl, combine the cake mix, the oil, and the 1 egg and mix until it is blended.

Step 4 -Reserve 1 cup of the cake mixture for the topping.

Step 5 -Press the remaining cake mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 6 -Bake the cake mixture until it has set, about 10-12 minutes.

Step 7 -While the cake mixture is baking, in a bowl, beat the cream cheese and the sugar until it is smooth.

Step 8 -Beat the remaining egg into the cream cheese mixture.

Step 9 -Spread the filling mixture over the crust, sprinkle with the chocolate chips, and top with the reserved cake batter mixture.

Step 10 -Bake the cake until it is set, about 18-20 minutes.

Step 11 -Allow the cake to cool on a wire rack.

Step 12 -Slice the cake into bars.

Step 13 -Serve and store extras in the refrigerator.
