  • 4 slices Texas toast, frozen
  • 1 pound ground beef, lean
  • 1/4 cup onions, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 teaspoons tomato paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1 ounce cheddar cheese, shredded

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven according to the package directions for the Texas toast.

Step 2 -In a pan, over medium heat, cook the ground beef and the onions, while crumbling the meat, until the beef is no longer pink, for about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3 -Drain the grease from the pan.

Step 4 -Add the garlic powder, the ketchup, the tomato paste, the Worcestershire sauce, the brown sugar, the salt, and the pepper to the meat mixture. Stir well to combine.

Step 5 -Cook the meat mixture until it has thickened.

Step 6 -While the meat mixture is thickening, place the Texas toast in the oven on a baking sheet. Bake according to the package directions.

Step 7 -Divide the toast among four plates, top with the meat mixture, and sprinkle each with 1/4-ounce cheese.

Step 8 -Serve.
