Cheesy Egg-In-A-Hole

Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 3 servings

About

This is one of the most iconic breakfasts in history, and with a cheesy twist to boot! Cheesy Egg-In-A-Hole features the classic sunny-side up egg nestled in the center of a deliciously crispy golden slice of toast. The egg is runny and savory, flavoring the toast with its wonderful creaminess, and the toast has a melty, sharp mayo-parmesan mixture spread across it for a cheesy, salty bite! Serve Cheesy Egg-In-A-Hole with hot sauce and you have a picture-perfect morning!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 6 slices Texas Toast-style bread
  • 6 large eggs
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • ground pepper, to taste
  • hot sauce, optional, to taste, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -In a small bowl add the mayonnaise and the parmesan cheese and stir to combine.

Step 2 -Cut a 3-inch circle into the center of each slice of bread, using a glass or a cookie cutter.

Step 3 -Separate the cut circles of the bread, reserving them for another use or toast them and serve along with the breakfast.

Step 4 -Spread the mayo-parmesan mixture onto both sides of each of the slices of the bread.

Step 5 -Preheat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat.

Step 6 -In batches, add the hollowed mayo-parmesan covered bread slices to the hot skillet and toast on one side until golden-brown on the bottom, about 1-2 minutes.

Step 7 -Flip the bread slices.

Step 8 -Crack 1 of the eggs into each of the holes of the hollowed bread slices and season the eggs with the salt and the pepper.

Step 9 -Reduce the heat to medium-low and partially cover the pan.

Step 10 -Cook the eggs, until set, about 3-4 minutes.

Step 11 -Transfer the toasted bread slices with the eggs to a plate.

Step 12 -Increase the heat to medium and repeat the cooking process with the remaining slices of the bread and the remaining eggs.

Step 13 -Serve warm with the hot sauce.
