Salute Eggs are also known as eggs with soldiers in England, and they make for a very whimsical and tasty breakfast indeed. A soft-boiled egg is balanced on an egg cup and served with some warm toast. Then you just dip or smear and enjoy! It's the savory, runny fun of soft eggs but in a new playful form! Salute Eggs will have your taste buds at attention in no time... literally, since they're so quick to make!
Ingredients
- 2 large eggs
- water, to taste
- salt, to taste
- ground pepper, to taste
- 2 slices whole-wheat bread, toasted, for serving
Directions
Step 1 -In a small saucepan over medium-high heat, add the eggs and enough of the water to cover them.
Step 2 -Bring the water to a simmer.
Step 3 -Transfer the saucepan from the heat and let it stand until the egg yolks are soft set, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 4 -Transfer the eggs to egg cups or a small bowl.
Step 5 -Tap the top of each egg with a spoon to crack the upper part of the shell and remove it.
Step 6 -Season the eggs with the salt and the pepper.
Step 7 -Serve the eggs with the toast.
