Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 3 cups water or beef broth
  • 2 (15-ounce) cans tomato sauce
  • 2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons dried Italian herb seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned salt
  • paprika, optional, to taste, plus more, to taste, for garnish
  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • parsley, optional, to taste, chopped, for garnish

Directions

Step 1 -In a Dutch oven or a large, heavy saucepan over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 7-10 minutes.

Step 2 -Drain the grease from the pot.

Step 3 -Add the onion, the green bell pepper, and the garlic and cook until the onions are translucent, about 2-3 minutes.

Step 4 -Add the water, the tomato sauce, the diced tomatoes and their juices, the Italian seasoning, the salt, and the paprika to the pot and mix well.

Step 5 -Reduce the heat to low.

Step 6 -Cover the pot and simmer, stirring occasionally, until the flavors have melted together, about 20 minutes.

Step 7 -Add the macaroni and stir well to combine.

Step 8 -Cover the pot and let the mixture simmer until slightly thickened and the macaroni is tender, about 30 minutes.

Step 9 -Serve garnished with the paprika and the parsley.
