Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons honey
- 1 (8-pound) bone-in ham, spiral-sliced, fat trimmed
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- allspice, to taste
- water, to taste
- bourbon, to taste
- orange slices, to taste, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -In a medium bowl, add the melted butter and the honey and whisk to combine.
Step 2 -In a slow cooker, add the ham and evenly coat the outside and in between the slices with the honey-butter mixture.
Step 3 -Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat, about 4-5 hours.
Step 4 -At the end of the cooking time, turn the broiler to the high setting.
Step 5 -Line a large roasting pan with heavy aluminum foil.
Step 6 -In a medium bowl, add the granulated sugar, the seasoned salt, the onion powder, the ground cinnamon, the ground nutmeg, the ground ginger, the ground cloves, the paprika, and the allspice and whisk to combine.
Step 7 -Transfer the ham to the prepared roasting pan and top with 1/2 of the seasoning mixture. Reserve 3 tablespoons of the ham juice from the bottom of the slow cooker.
Step 8 -Broil the seasoned ham until it is bubbly and caramelized, about 4-5 minutes.
Step 9 -Transfer the roasting pan to a wire rack. Keep the broiler on.
Step 10 -In a small saucepan, add the remaining seasoning mixture, the reserved ham juice, the water, and the bourbon and stir to combine. Bring to a boil, about 1 minute.
Step 11 -Evenly brush the glaze over the ham, then broil until it is lightly browned, about 1-2 minutes. Be careful not to burn.
Step 12 -Transfer the roasting pan to a wire rack and let the glazed ham rest, about 5-10 minutes.
Step 13 -Serve the ham garnished with the orange slices.
