Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon parsley, chopped, plus more, to taste, for garnish
  • kosher salt, to taste
  • ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cups jarred marinara sauce
  • 3 hoagie rolls
  • 9 slices provolone cheese

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.

Step 2 -Line a rimmed baking sheet with foil.

Step 3 -In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, the egg, the breadcrumbs, the parmesan cheese, the garlic, 1 tablespoon of the parsley, the salt, and the pepper.

Step 4 -Form the beef mixture into 12 evenly-sized meatballs.

Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add the oil.

Step 6 -Add the meatballs to the heated oil and cook until they are seared on all sides, about 4 minutes.

Step 7 -Add the marinara sauce to the meatballs and cover the skillet with a lid. Cook until the meat is no longer pink, about 8-10 minutes.

Step 8 -Split the hoagie rolls, or if desired, hollow out the tops of the rolls to make a boat. Save the excess bread for another use.

Step 9 -Lay 3 slices of the provolone cheese in each of the rolls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 10 -Bake the cheese-topped rolls until the cheese has melted, about 5 minutes.

Step 11 -Place 4 of the meatballs in a row on the cheese on each of the toasted hoagies and bake until everything is heated through, about 6-8 minutes.

Step 12 -Serve the sandwiches garnished with the extra parsley.
