Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 6 large tart red apples, sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Directions

Step 1 -In a large, cast-iron skillet or a heavy skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

Step 2 -Add the onions and sauté until they are tender, about 5-7 minutes.

Step 3 -Place the apples on top of the onions.

Step 4 -Combine the brown sugar, the salt, the paprika, and the nutmeg in a bowl.

Step 5 -Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture over the apples.

Step 6 -Cover the skillet and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 7 -Uncover the skillet and simmer until the apples are tender, about 5 minutes.

Step 8 -Serve with a slotted spoon.
