- 8 tostada shells or corn tortillas
- olive oil, optional, to taste
- salt, optional, to taste
- For the optional toppings:
- 2 cups iceberg lettuce, finely shredded
- 1 cup tomatoes, diced
- 2 cups Mexican cheese blend, shredded
- olives, to taste
- jalapeños, to taste
- cilantro, to taste
- red onions, to taste, diced
- 2/3 cup sour cream
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F if using tostada shells or 375 degrees F if using the corn tortillas.
Step 2 -In a large skillet, cook the beef while crumbling until no longer pink, about 7-10 minutes.
Step 3 -Carefully drain the excess fat from the skillet.
Step 4 -Add the water and the taco seasoning to the cooked meat.
Step 5 -Simmer the meat mixture until thickened, about 5 minutes.
Step 6 -While the meat is cooking, heat the refried beans in the microwave or on the stovetop until heated through.
Step 7 -Place the tostada shells on a baking sheet and bake until warm and fragrant, about 5 minutes. If using corn tortillas, brush each side of the tortilla with olive oil and sprinkle it generously with salt. Bake the seasoned tortillas for 4 minutes and then flip. Continue baking until browned and crisp, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 8 -Carefully transfer the warmed shells from the oven.
Step 9 -Spoon the heated refried beans onto the shells followed by the meat.
Step 10 -Top the meat with your preferred toppings.
Step 11 -Serve.
