Every Sunday is going to be spectacular with this dessert! Sunday's Texas Sheet Cake is a buttery, vanilla-flavored delight! It's extra tender and moist, topped with a lusciously creamy vanilla frosting that gives the cake a little added sweetness! With crunchy walnuts for texture, Sunday's Texas Sheet Cake is just scrumptious! It's really as simple as that!
Ingredients
- For the cake:
- 2 sticks butter, cut into cubes
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- For the frosting:
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean paste or vanilla extract
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Step 2 -Coat a 10x15-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
Step 3 -In a large saucepan, add 2 sticks of the cubed butter and the water and bring the mixture to a boil.
Step 4 -Transfer the saucepan from the heat.
Step 5 -Add the flour, the granulated sugar, the eggs, the sour cream, 1 teaspoon of the vanilla bean paste, the salt, and the baking soda to the butter mixture and stir until smooth.
Step 6 -Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
Step 7 -Bake until the cake is golden-brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 20-22 minutes.
Step 8 -Allow the cake to cool for 20 minutes.
Step 9 -In a saucepan over medium heat, add the remaining butter and the milk and cook, while stirring, until it comes to a low boil. Ensure the milk does not get scorched.
Step 10 -Transfer the saucepan from the heat.
Step 11 -Slowly add the powdered sugar and the remaining vanilla bean paste to the milk mixture and mix well to combine until smooth.
Step 12 -Spread the frosting over the warm cake.
Step 13 -Sprinkle the walnuts over the frosting.
Step 14 -Serve.
