Ingredients

  • 2 cups 2% milk
  • 1 cup chicken broth or vegetable broth
  • 1 cup water
  • salt, to taste
  • 1 cup old-fashioned grits, uncooked
  • 2-3 cups sharp cheddar cheese or Monterey-Jack cheese, shredded
  • pepper, to taste

Directions

Step 1 -In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the milk, the broth, and the water and bring it to a boil.

Step 2 -Add the salt and the grits to the milk mixture and whisk to combine.

Step 3 -Reduce the heat to low and cook the grits mixture, stirring frequently, until creamy, about 15-20 minutes.

Step 4 -Stir the cheese into the grits and cook until it has melted.

Step 5 -Season the grits with the salt and the pepper.

Step 6 -Serve.
