The Sloppy Joe Slider Bake is the way you feed a small army, or an intimate gathering of friends, whatever works for you! With a single casserole, you make sandwich after sandwich of toasty rolls with a filling of meaty, savory, and sweet sloppy Joe goodness! Topped with a humble, tangy glaze, the Sloppy Joe Slider Bake is like finding school-cafeteria nostalgia alive and well in your own kitchen!
Ingredients
- For the bake:
- 1 (18-ounce) package Hawaiian sweet rolls, cut horizontally
- 12 slices cheddar cheese
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1 (15.5-ounce) can sloppy Joe sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 3/4 teaspoon pepper
- For the glaze:
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 teaspoon soy sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon dried onion, minced
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 1 teaspoon black sesame seeds
- dill pickle slices, optional, to taste, for topping
Directions
Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Step 2 -Coat a 9x13-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Step 3 -Place the bottom half of the Hawaiian rolls in the prepared pan.
Step 4 -Top the bottom roll layer in the baking pan with 1/2 of the cheese slices.
Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium heat, add the beef and the onions and cook, while crumbling the beef and stirring occasionally, until the meat is no longer pink and the onions are tender, about 6-8 minutes.
Step 6 -Add the sloppy Joe sauce, 1 tablespoon of the brown sugar, 1 tablespoon of the soy sauce, and the pepper into the ground beef mixture and cook, while stirring, until well-combined, about 1-2 minutes.
Step 7 -Evenly spoon the sloppy Joe mixture over the cheese layer in the pan.
Step 8 -Top the sloppy Joe layer with the remaining cheese slices.
Step 9 -Top the cheese layer with the top half of the rolls.
Step 10 -In a small bowl, add the melted butter, the remaining brown sugar, the Dijon mustard, the remaining soy sauce, the garlic powder, and the dried onion and whisk until combined into a glaze.
Step 11 -Brush the glaze over the tops of the prepared sloppy Joe sandwiches.
Step 12 -Sprinkle the sesame seeds and the black sesame seeds evenly over top of the casserole.
Step 13 -Bake until the roll tops are golden and the cheese has melted, about 15-20 minutes.
Step 14 -Serve with the sliced pickles.
