Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt, divided
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 cup onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon cooking sherry

Directions

Step 1 -In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, the egg, the breadcrumbs, the pepper, 1/2 teaspoon of the salt, the onion powder, the garlic powder, and the Worcestershire sauce.

Step 2 -Form the meat mixture into 8 balls, then flatten them into patties.

Step 3 -Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Step 4 -Fry the patties and the onion in the hot oil until the patties are nicely browned, about 4 minutes per side.

Step 5 -Transfer the patties to a plate and keep warm. Reserve the onions in the skillet.

Step 6 -Sprinkle the flour over the onions and the drippings in the skillet.

Step 7 -Whisk the flour, making sure to scrape up the brown bits at the bottom of the pan.

Step 8 -Gradually mix in the beef broth and the sherry.

Step 9 -Season the gravy mixture with the remaining seasoned salt.

Step 10 -Simmer the gravy over medium-low heat, stirring, until it thickens, about 5 minutes.

Step 11 -Reduce the heat to low and return the patties to the gravy.

Step 12 -Cover and let simmer for 15 minutes.

Step 13 -Serve hot.
