When the world seems a little rambunctious, it's nice to slow down a bit. Start your day wandering down a winding path of deliciousness to A Down-Home Breakfast. Layers of crispy tater tots covered with some crumbled turkey sausage, a creamy, seasoned egg mixture, and loads of melted Colby-Jack cheese create that "let's-pump-the-brakes" great taste. So, gather around the table and let A Down-Home Breakfast bring everyone back together again. There's no place like home!
Ingredients
- 1 (32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots
- 6 large eggs
- 2 tablespoons heavy cream
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 pound ground turkey sausage
- 1 cup Colby-Jack cheese, shredded
- chives, to taste, chopped, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -Coat a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
Step 2 -Add about 2/3 of the tater tots to the prepared slow cooker.
Step 3 -In a medium bowl, add the eggs, the heavy cream, the thyme, the garlic powder, the salt, and the black pepper and whisk to combine.
Step 4 -Evenly pour the egg mixture over the tater tot layer.
Step 5 -In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the ground turkey sausage and cook, while crumbling, until it is no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
Step 6 -Use a slotted spoon to evenly add the cooked turkey sausage over the egg mixture.
Step 7 -Evenly sprinkle the remaining tater tots over the cooked turkey sausage layer, then sprinkle with the Colby-Jack cheese.
Step 8 -Cover the slow cooker and cook the tater tot mixture, about 2-3 hours on high heat and about 4-6 hours on low heat.
Step 9 -Serve the tater tot mixture garnished with the chives.
