Ingredients

  • For the bread:
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup 2% milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • For the glaze:
  • 1/3 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 2 teaspoons 2% milk

Directions

Step 1 -Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.

Step 2 -Grease an 8x4-inch loaf pan.

Step 3 -In a small saucepan, combine the sugar and 1/3 cup of the milk.

Step 4 -Over low heat, cook and stir the mixture until the brown sugar is dissolved.

Step 5 -Transfer the saucepan from the heat.

Step 6 -In a large bowl, whisk the flour, the baking powder, the cinnamon, the nutmeg, and the cloves.

Step 7 -In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs, the honey, the oil, and the brown sugar mixture until blended. Be careful; if the brown sugar mixture is too hot, it might scramble the eggs. Make sure it is cool enough (room temperature should be fine).

Step 8 -Add the wet ingredients mixture to the flour mixture, stirring until just moistened.

Step 9 -Transfer the batter to the prepared loaf pan.

Step 10 -Bake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean, about 50-60 minutes. Tent the bread with foil if it begins to brown too quickly.

Step 11 -Allow the bread to cool in the pan for at least 10 minutes.

Step 12 -Transfer the bread from the pan to a wire rack to cool completely.

Step 13 -Stir the confectioners' sugar and the remaining milk together.

Step 14 -Drizzle the glaze over the bread.

Step 15 -Serve.
