Ingredients• 10 cups old fashioned oats • 1 cup wheat germ • 1/2 pound coconut, shredded • 2 cups sunflower seeds, raw • 1/4 cup sesame seeds • 3 cups nuts, of your choice, chopped • 1 1/2 cups sugar, raw or brown sugar • 1 1/2 cups water • 1 1/2 cups canola oil • 1/2 cup honey • 1/2 cup blackstrap molasses • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt • 2 teaspoons cinnamon • 3 teaspoons vanilla extract • raisins and dried fruit, optional, to taste
Preheat the oven to 300 degrees F.
Combine the oats, wheat germ, coconut, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and nuts in a very large bowl.
Heat the sugar, water, canola oil, honey, molasses, salt, cinnamon, and vanilla in a large kettle until sugar dissolves. Make sure the syrup doesn’t boil.
Pour the syrup over dry ingredients and stir well to coat.
Spread the granola mixture into multiple (3-5) 9x13-inch pans or cookie sheets with sides.
Bake for 20-30 minutes, stirring several times. If crunchier granola is desired, bake up to 15 minutes more.
Remove the granola from the oven and add the raisins or other dried fruit.
Let cool completely before serving.
