Ingredients• 3/4 pound Italian pork sausage • 1 1/4 cups water • 1 (14.5 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained • 1 cup tomato sauce • 8 ounces penne pasta • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, optional, grated, for garnish • basil, optional, chopped, for garnish
In a large skillet heated over medium-high heat, add the sausage and saute until cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. While cooking the sausage, use a wooden spoon to break it apart.
Transfer the cooked sausage to paper towels on a plate to drain.
In the same skillet, mix together the water, undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, and pasta.
Bring the mixture to a boil.
Once boiling, cover with a lid and reduce the heat to low.
Cook until the pasta is tender, about 15 minutes.
Add the sausage and toss to coat.
Garnish with parmesan cheese and basil and serve!
