What's more refreshing on a hot day than a cold, crisp glass of lemonade? This recipe promises freshly squeezed lemonade that's not too sour and not too sweet. Enjoy for yourself or help the kiddos set up a lemonade stand!

• 2 cups granulated sugar • 1 1/2 cups fresh lemon juice, about 6-8 lemons • 4 1/2 - 5 cups water, divided

Step 1

Add sugar and 2 cups of water to a saucepan over medium heat and stir to combine. Bring contents to a boil until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. You have just created simple syrup.

Step 2

Juice the lemons and, if no pulp is desired, strain through a fine-mesh sleeve into a 2-quart pitcher. Add simple syrup and stir until fully combined. Refrigerate until nice and cold.

Step 3

When ready to serve, add 2 1/2 cups of cold water and stir well. If it's too sweet, you can always add more water.

Step 4

Serve over ice and thinly sliced lemons.
