No matter what season it is, everyone enjoys a little touch of autumn when the mood strikes. Delectable Apple Turnovers positively enchant with their golden and flaky pastry, while the cinnamon-spiced apple filling tastes of the holiday season. Drizzled with a luscious vanilla glaze, Delectable Apple Turnovers are more than worthy of the name. Best of all, they take less than an hour to make, so you can eat them as soon as nostalgia strikes.
IngredientsFor the turnovers: • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter • 3 cups apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced • 1/3 cup brown sugar • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour • 1 tablespoon lemon juice • 1 teaspoon cinnamon • 1/8 teaspoon ginger • 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract • 1 (17.3-ounce) package frozen puff pastry sheets, thawed • 1 egg white • 1 tablespoon water For the glaze: • 1 cup powdered sugar • 2 tablespoons milk • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the apples to the skillet and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes.
Add the brown sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg.
Cook and stir until the apples are tender and the sauce is thickened, about 3 minutes.
Remove the skillet from the heat.
Stir in 1 teaspoon of the vanilla extract and set the mixture aside to cool.
Unfold one puff pastry sheet onto a piece of parchment paper, pinching the seams together as necessary. Cut the pastry sheet into four even squares.
Mix the egg white with the water in a small bowl, creating an egg wash.
Brush the egg wash mixture on the edges of each pastry sheet square.
Spoon about 2 tablespoons of the cooled apple mixture into the center of each pastry square.
Fold each pastry square in half diagonally, pinching the edges with a fork to seal them.
Lightly brush the egg wash over the tops of each turnover.
Transfer the turnovers to the prepared baking sheet.
Repeat the cutting, filling, and folding process with the remaining pastry sheet and apple filling mixture.
Bake until the turnovers are puffed and lightly browned, about 20-25 minutes.
Transfer the turnovers to a wire rack and allow them to cool for 10 minutes.
In a small bowl, combine the powdered sugar, milk, and remaining vanilla extract, mixing to a smooth, thick consistency.
Drizzle the glaze over the turnovers.
