A flaky, delicious pastry filled with apples, cinnamon, sugar, and more! This Austrian Apple Strudel won't disappoint and you're sure to make it time and time again. The first known strudel recipe dates back to 1696, and apple strudel has been a family favorite ever since! Dust your finished Apple Strudel with powdered sugar for a dainty look or top with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients

• 3 Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced 1/4-inch thick • 1 teaspoon lemon juice • 1 teaspoon vanilla • 1 cup light brown sugar • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour • 1/2 cup golden raisins • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed • 1 egg • 1/4 cup milk • 1 tablespoon coarse sugar

Directions

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

Step 2

Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper.

Step 3

In a large bowl, mix together the apples, lemon juice, vanilla, brown sugar, ground cinnamon, flour, and raisins, stirring to evenly coat the apple slices.

Step 4

Set the puff pastry onto the parchment-lined baking sheet, unfolding it if necessary and using a rolling pin to roll it out slightly and make it even.

Step 5

Spread the apple mixture evenly down the center of the pastry, lengthwise.

Step 6

Fold the sides of the puff pastry up and over the apple mixture.

Step 7

Seal the dough together by slightly dampening the pastry and pressing the dough together.

Step 8

Mix together the egg and milk with a whisk.

Step 9

Lightly brush the top of the pastry with the egg wash and sprinkle with the coarse sugar.

Step 10

Bake until the crust is golden-brown, about 35–40 minutes.

Step 11

Serve warm or at room temperature.
