All-American Chili Cheese Dogs

Independence Day, summer cookouts, or barbecues all call for some indulgence. Burgers, hot dogs, and chicken are all great, but you need a head-turner, a show-stopper. All-American Chili Cheese Dogs are that headliner dish; just look at them! Each dog is topped with beefy, deeply savory, spicy, and zesty chili topped with melted cheddar cheese. All that ladled over fresh grilled hot dogs, so All-American Chili Cheese Dogs truly do steal the show. Your tastebuds are already cheering and jumping for joy (and you will be too)!


• 1 pound lean ground beef, 90% lean • 1 (15-ounce) can of tomato sauce • 1/2 cup water • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder • 1/2 teaspoon pepper • cayenne pepper, to taste • 8 hot dogs • 8 hot dog buns, split • cheddar cheese, optional, shredded, for topping • relish, optional, to taste, for topping • onion, optional, chopped, for serving


Step 1

In a large skillet, cook the beef, crumbling it as it cooks, over medium heat until no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.

Step 2

Drain the fat from the skillet.

Step 3

Stir in the tomato sauce, water, Worcestershire sauce, dried minced onion, garlic powder, ground mustard, chili powder, pepper, and cayenne pepper.

Step 4

Place the hot dogs in a 3-quart slow cooker.

Step 5

Top the hot dogs with the beef mixture.

Step 6

Cook, covered, on low until heated through, about 4-5 hours.

Step 7

Serve on buns and top with your favorite toppings.
