It might be tempting to reach for a packet of premade taco spice mix at the grocery store, but it’s just as easy to make 15-Minute Taco Meat at home. With your protein of choice as the base, the myriad spices get to work adding a depth of savory flavor and heat. 15-Minute Taco Meat delivers what it promises; it will be ready to fill hard or soft taco shells, or top a taco salad in a quarter of an hour.
Ingredients• 1 pound of lean ground sirloin or ground chicken, turkey, or pork • 1/2 cup tomato sauce • 1/4 cup water • 1/2 tablespoon chili powder • 1 teaspoon cumin • 1 teaspoon salt • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder • 1/2 teaspoon paprika • 1/8 teaspoon oregano • 1/4 teaspoon pepper • 1/8 teaspoon red pepper flakes, crushed
Over medium-high heat, crumble the beef into small chunks in a skillet.
Cook until brown.
Once brown, drain any excess grease and pat the beef dry with paper towels.
Return the beef to the pan and combine with the tomato sauce, water, chili powder, cumin, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, oregano, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
Bring everything to a boil before reducing to a simmer.
Let the meat simmer for about 5-7 minutes.
